I am spiritual, and identify myself as a Muslim and Shia (I am equally accepting of all Muslims - shia, sunni, etc.). Religion and practice is between an individual and God. In terms of partner preferences, he should at minimum identify himself as a Muslim, and not have any issues with Islam being the religion of the household. I do not drink, never have. That being said - if someone drinks now, they are not "out," but there should be an understanding that alcohol will not be a part of a future household.
